The Housekeeper and the Professor
Yōko Ogawa
Translated by Stephen Snyder
This a delightful quick read about a housekeeper who is assigned to a mathematician who, due to a traumatic injury, only has an 80 minute memory. She brings her son to the professor’s house during the work day and the book follows the bond the three of them share. I read this during my trip to Japan and was enchanted by the descriptions of food and culture. It also articulated Japan’s love of baseball- something I had no clue about!
